Big wins for the big guns in Stone Pool League

Week four of the Crown Street Garage Stone and District Pool League saw the defending champions put on a masterclass, but one of last year’s title contenders came unstuck…

#Jokaz 4 Labour In Vain 4

A point each for these two mid-table sides seemed a fair result, although the home team will be the more disappointed as from 4-2 up they lost the final two frames to be denied the full two points. Andy Gibson earned the draw for Labour with his second win of the night, beating former Singles Merits champion Phil Ratherham.

Eccleshall Eagles 0 The Joker 8

A masterclass of percentage pool from the defending champions gave them a huge win. On a difficult table, the Joker juggernaut rolled on! Frame 1 matched up two undefeated players and it was Melvin Archer who won as Leigh Marshall potted the 8 ball prematurely. Tony Douthwaite made a great comeback clearance after Steve Guildford left the black over the pocket. Mark Perry tied up Andy Evans, Mark Welton did the same to Steven Duffield. The second half fixtures were identical, as were the outcomes!

Lamb Hot Pots 6 Moddershall 2

Moddershall may have fancied taking something from this fixture, but were quickly behind as Ben Smith, Ian Lewis and Neil Dale raced to a 3-0 lead. The same three won in the 2nd half with Alan Pinkstone losing to Shaun Brian and Neil Rowley, making him Moddershall’s best player.

Lamb A continue to start slowly, being 2-1 down via a win for Steve James and Captain Rob Hughes, who beat former League ‘Top Averages Winner’ Paul Knight. However Lamb A won four of the next five frames, two wins for League Chairman Andy Conner securing the two points and top spot in the league table for another week.

Little Stoke 7 Talbot 1

The Railway have relocated to The Talbot but faced tough opposition at in-form Little Stoke. Lee Walker made his 2nd 8Ball clearance of the campaign as they opened up an 7-0 lead before Nick Peatfield gained a consolation frame over Dan Kocyigit. Lee, Nick Griffin and Russ Britton won 2 out of 2.

Longton Cricket Club 5 Cuckoo 3

In the local derby, the cricket club secured the 2 points. Cuckoo have recruited players from other leagues, but their lack of old world rules tactics was exploited by Captain Russ Johnson and Ryan Kenny. From three-all, Russ and Ryan repeated their first-half victories for the win.

Longton Snooker Club 3 Stone Cricket Club 5

In the big upset of the night, Stone CC beat last year’s title contenders Longton Snooker. Stone CC lead 2-0 and 4-2 with Longton’s top player Liam Flaherty surprisingly losing twice. Ian Banks made it 5-2 and secured the 2 points, by beating Alan Brown, the leagues most senior player. Dave Roberts beat Andrew Moreton to make the score more respectable.

[box type=”info” ]This week see’s League Week 5. With the four undefeated teams all playing each other, the table may change significantly! Lamb v Little Stoke looks mouthwatering. Lamb A will need to start much better if they are to overcome Lamb Hot Pots. At the bottom of the table, Talbot v Cuckoo looks like a four-pointer![/box]
