Bill Cash holds Stone constituency with increased majority

Bill Cash has held the Stone constituency for the Conservatives with an increased majority.

On a good night for the Tories nationally, where they’re expected to have a majority in the House of Commons, Bill Cash’s majority was 16,250 (in 2010 it was 13,292).

Andrew Illsley increased UKIP’s share of the vote by almost 11% but the party finished third behind Labour’s Sam Hale. The Lib Dems, mirroring their national performance, saw their support crumble in the Stone constituency by over 17%.

Turnout was 70.05%.

Counting for the borough and town council elections gets under way later today.
