Bloomin’ beautiful Stone strikes gold again!

Stone has won gold for the sixth year running in the Heart of England in Bloom awards.

Volunteers have been hard at work to make sure the town was looking its very best for the visit of the judges in July. One new feature which obviously went down very well with them was the explosions of wildflowers around the town, including at St Michael’s Church (pictured above).

The amazing achievement is reward for the volunteer team’s efforts over the last 12 months, as well as local businesses, community groups and the borough council’s Streetscene team.

This year Stone made it into the Britain in Bloom competition for the first time, competing against Belper, Chichester, Coleraine, Dumfries, Huntington, Knaresborough, Rhyl, St Helier and Truro for the Best Large Town prize. Judging for the Britain in Bloom competition took place later in the summer and we’ll find out on 6th October how Stone gets on. Fingers crossed!
