Bloom’n Spring Clean of the Stone wildflower beds

St. Michaels BedCoinciding with the Stone Spring Clean, the Stone in Bloom team have been busy cultivating the wildflower beds around Stone ready for seeding next week.

Stone in Bloom is a self-funding voluntary group with members from all age ranges that clean, tidy, plant, put up Christmas trees and look after many areas around Stone. You name it they’ve probably done it. These past twelve months, because of Covid have been challenging, as it has also been for many organisations.

Last year due to Covid-19 restrictions the group were unable to carry out their usual work party dates with the result that the wildflower beds were left to fend for themselves. However, for 2021 things are looking to get back to normal and the Stone in Bloom members have been out and about tending the beds.

Jill Hood - Stone in BloomStone in Bloom’s chairman Jill Hood tells us that the group are in a celebratory mood as the sowing of the wildflower seeds in the usual areas around the town is nearly completed.

Rob and Peter - Stone in BloomThis year volunteers, with the help of their Stone in Bloom friend Peter Jones (who gives his plant equipment and time freely), have a surprise in store as they have also added another patch near to the Whitebridge roundabouts. The team have also redone the Aston roundabout bed that had all but disappeared.

It won’t be long before Stone announces their “Reasons to be cheerful” with blazes of colour in their wildflower displays.

Here are some pictures of the work undertaken as well as what the wildflowers will look like when they spring up!
