Wildlife lovers can keep tabs on a special ‘birdcam’ this spring that has been installed in an Aston Lodge garden birdbox.
Jon Cook first set up the miniature web camera in 2008. Over the last few years he has captured a whole host of Springwatch-style moments, usually involving bluetits.
It was amazing last year to see a nest being built, eggs being laid, chicks hatching and being raised (and all the highlights of last year are available to view on the Stone birdcam website now).
With spring well and truly springing this year, the camera is ready to roll again! There’s not been too much action so far, although there have been a few ‘inspection’ visits to the box by bluetits. The camera is not rolling 24-7 yet – but will be very soon.
Below is a taster from last year. Let’s hope there’s more egg-laying action in 2011!

Mrs Blue Tit spent the night in the nest box last night. Here is a video of her leaving at 5.59am this morning https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1GO2OBLTkKQ

Thanks for the mention.
We have posted up a new video today showing the latest activity in the bird box. Things are looking promising for nest building to begin soon.

Great stuff! I can see that I’m going to be glued to the birdcam over the next couple of months 😉
