A not-for-profit care home group will open the doors of Shoemaker Place this Spring and as well as it creating care opportunities for the local community it will also support fifty new local jobs.
With eleven care homes already across Stockport and Staffordshire, Borough Care is set to open its twelfth this Spring, Shoemaker Place located on The Fillybrooks in Stone.
Borough Care has said that the new home will combine a luxury setting with the highest standards of care, boasting 66-beds and it hopes to be the ideal place for older people in the surrounding area to live comfortably.
Shoemaker Place is made up of small households, each with communal areas, sitting and dining rooms. The familiarity of these households supports those living with dementia, whilst enabling them to enjoy the facilities in the home. Each of Shoemaker Place’s beautifully furnished bedrooms comes with a TV point, kitchenette, and en-suite wet room.

Shoemaker Place is currently recruiting for a Deputy Care Home Manager, Care Assistants for both day and night, Senior Care Assistants for both night and day, housekeepers, an Activity and Lifestyle Co-ordinator, and catering crew members.

With the care sector notorious for being underpaid and undervalued, the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the significance and importance of care workers in society. Care home staff have been through an extremely challenging two years, but positive steps have been taken by Borough Care to ensure it is one of the best organisations in the care sector to work for.
In 2021, Borough Care became the country’s largest residential care provider to receive a real living wage accreditation from the Real Living Wage Foundation. The real living wage means that Borough Care pays its staff significantly more than the industry average hourly wage for care workers.
Borough Care is currently undertaking measures to secure a Pride in Care accreditation. The programme aims to help organisations improve their quality of care and support for older lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and queer+ people, while challenging any poor practice they may encounter in health and social care provision.
Borough Care is proud to have partnered with Stonewall, the charity which helps create transformative change in the lives of LGBTQ+ people in the UK. Stonewall is the UK’s leading LGBTQ+ rights charity, working towards creating a world where all LGBTQ+ people are free to be themselves and live their lives to the full.
Also in 2021, Borough Care joined the Good Employment Charter in their mission to give employees happier, more balanced work lives. The Good Employment Charter is a voluntary membership and assessment scheme that aims to improve the standard of employment across Greater Manchester. Its ethos is that people need secure, fulfilling, well-paid work to reach their full potential.
Speaking of their experience working in one of Borough Care’s homes, a member of staff said:
“It’s been over six years since I first began working at Borough Care as a Care Assistant. My main responsibility is to help our residents with day-to-day living; making sure they are happy and stimulated. I start my working day by saying good morning to all the residents under my care and checking how their nights have been. I can then make any adjustments to their records or care plans, ensuring we always have the most up-to-date information about our residents’ wellbeing both physically and emotionally. I really enjoy working at Borough Care. They have given me a career I can be really proud of.”
