Borough chief: we can weather the storm when the cuts hit

The chief executive of Stafford Borough Council said today that the borough is equipped to cope with the cuts announced by the coalition Government.

Ian Thompson said: “We won’t know the details of how these cuts affect individual councils for several weeks. However, we have planned for a worst case scenario and from the Chancellor’s announcement we feel confident we can make the savings required.

“This is not going to be easy but local people can be reassured that as far as possible we will protect those frontline services which are important to them. Having spoken to local business people and other public sector heads I am reassured that although it will be tough the Stafford Borough economy is well equipped to weather any short-term impact.”
