Brave Stone Doms LFC out of the cup

Stone Dominoes Ladies FC faced a team from a higher league in a Women’s FA Cup qualifier on Saturday, and came so close to causing an upset.

Stone Doms and Bilbrook LFC battled hard all over the field, with lots of chances carved out for both sides. Striker Vikki Garner had to be substituted due to injury, with Laura Baskerville slotting in up top with Mollie Prime.

Bilbrook took the lead on the half-hour and doubled their advantage just before half-time, leaving Stone Doms with a mountain to climb.

The second half saw Stone change formation to 4-3-3 and they began to create more chances. Striker Mollie Prime was heavily marked throughout the game but was again on the scoresheet after two fantastic goals. The first made the score 2-1 and brought Stone right back into the match.

However, Bilbrook replied straight away with two goals after the defence was caught napping.

Stone weren’t finished just yet, though. Mollie Prime grabbed her second goal before central defender Hayley Mason headed home from a corner to make it 4-3. Stone were within touching distance and the last 10 minutes was all Stone Dominoes pressure to score. Lydia Bennion came close but it wasn’t to be.

Player of the match was Lauren Ward.

On Saturday 4th October,  the team is back in league action with a trip to Lichfield City
