C&A re-opens after ‘nightmare’ for owner

The Crown and Anchor will be open again on Thursday (21st August) from 12pm after a week that owner Custodio Pinto called a “nightmare”.

Custodio was forced to close the popular Stone pub and restaurant last week after he discovered that – because he’d gone into voluntary liquidation last month – the venue didn’t have a licence.

The pub will be open on Thursday to Sunday this week (21st to 24th August) and then on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays until week beginning Monday 11th September, when Custodio is confident that normal opening times and days will resume.

The reduced opening days for the next few weeks are because Custodio has applied for temporary licences to cover the venue until a full licence is granted.

Custodio told us today: “We applied for a temporary entertainment licence to stage some live music in the car park on the Day of Music in Stone last Saturday. During this process, I found out that because of the voluntary liquidation we should have got a new licence under a new name. I wasn’t aware of this.

“Me and my wife Teresa are so sorry to our customers, but we’ll be getting back to normal on Thursday, and we’re going to put this behind us and move forward. The experience really has been a nightmare. No business wants to close, even if it’s just for a few days.

“We’re totally committed to the Crown and Anchor, we’ve worked so hard on refurbishing it, and we’re so looking forward to welcoming our customers back.”
