It wasn’t just Lizzie Neave who represented Stafford and Stone Canoe Club at the London 2012 Olympics you know! On Saturday night a special event was held at the club on Westbridge Park to celebrate Lizzie’s achievements but also to thank all the volunteers and officials from the club who took part in the amazing summer of sport.

At the event Lizzie also presented prizes to the winners of the Stafford and Stone Town Cup event that took place at the weekend, as well as the club’s annual awards.

It was an emotional night for Lizzie, who wrote on her blog: “The evening included a video made by my Dad, of my journey from the past seven years through until the Olympics. It brought back so many memories and emotions, and as my Dad invited me up to the front I was touched to be given the longest round of applause I’ve ever received.

“As I thanked the club members for their support, I fought back tears but eventually broke down as I said a special thanks to my Dad, for without him teaching me to paddle, and his support, I never could have achieved so much. I wanted to include my Mum in my thanks too, but was blubbering too much to get any more words out, and after a big hug from my Dad, I looked around to see hardly any dry eyes in the room!”
