Children take the Space Hop challenge

Verity with mum & dad at the library

More than 300 children are taking part in this year’s summer reading challenge at Stone library.

The Space Hop – a national scheme at libraries all over the country – encourages youngsters to keep reading over the long school break. And it’s certainly caught the imagination of Stone youngsters – with around 320 signed up at the High Street library.

To complete the challenge, young readers have to borrow two books on three separate occasions. They get space-themed stickers, posters and bookmarks to encourage them along the way. At the end of the challenge, children get a Space Hop certificate, medal and a glow-in-the-dark mobile.

So far, around 100 children have completed the Space Hop at Stone library, including my four-year-old daughter Verity. She was thrilled to get her certificate today!
