Pupils from Christ Church Academy in Stone were crowned County Champions last week at the Staffordshire School Games.
Teams from all over Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent gathered at Keele University for the annual School Games events. The event comprised of winners from district competitions who competed to become county winners.
Guest of honour for the day was Olympic bronze medalist Beth Tweddle, who gave an inspiring talk to all young people and also visited all sports sites.
On a very wet day, Christ Church Academy were victorious in the Year 5/6 Quick Sticks hockey, whilst Church Eaton Primary gained first place in the Mini Tennis. Walton High and Sir Graham Balfour also placed well, each gaining second in the nine-hole golf and volleyball respectively.
Steve Glover, Stafford and Stone School Sports Partnership development manager, said: “It was great to see Stafford and Stone schools competing so well. This is the first year we have won any of the events and therefore compliments the work that has been taking place locally. I wish to congratulate all our schools who took part, especially Church Eaton Primary School and Christ Church Academy.”
