Christmas storytellers needed for Advent Windows

Last year's first window at Tim Toft Violins

The hunt is on for volunteer storytellers who can make this year’s Advent Windows project in Stone a huge success again.

Twenty-four volunteers are needed to put over the Christmas message in venues throughout the town in the lead-up to Christmas.

Pam Pott, who is organising the project again after last year’s fantastic inaugural event, is giving training on two Saturdays –  1st and 8th – from 10am to 1pm at Christ Church Centre in Christchurch Way.

Pam, an excellent storyteller herself, said: “We’re looking for people from the age of 10 upwards who will come on both days. People of all ages are welcome and we can guarantee that the workshops will be fun!”

In the build-up to Christmas, shops and businesses will decorate their windows and open them on a different day in December. Instead of last year’s carols, stories from around the world will be told when each window is opened.

The first Christmas story from the Bible will be told in the first eight windows. The other stories from 14 different countries will include Leo Tolstoy’s Papa Panov and The Little Match Girl by Hans Christian Anderson.

An unusual window will focus on the story of the Christmas Truce in the First World War. Once again, schools, youth clubs and other organisations are partnering with some of the shops to create the windows.

On Christmas Eve there will be a carol singing and storytelling journey through the town, starting at 9.30am and finishing at Christ Church at 11am for the opening of the final window by the Bishop of Stafford.

To take part, call Pam on 01785 286474 or 07932 790525.
