A stretch of Church Street in Stone is set to close to traffic for the day later this month, while work is carried out on a manhole frame and cover.

Staffordshire County Council says the closure will affect the whole length of Church Street on Friday 20 March 2026, with work expected to take place between 8am and 5pm.
For drivers, that means no vehicles will be allowed along Church Street for its full length while the restriction is in place, unless they are connected with the work itself, need access to nearby properties, or are being used by the emergency services.
Pedestrian access will still be maintained throughout.
The closure notice shows the works taking place just before the giveway junction, before the level crossing (not the junction shown in the picture – it’s the junction as your travel up Church Street from here, before the railway crossing!).
Diversion route in place
As with many temporary road closures, the legal order remains in force for up to 18 months, but that does not mean the road will be shut for that long. In this case, the council says the actual work is expected to be completed on the same day, with the longer period simply allowing room if the job has to be delayed or rescheduled.

What about the potholes further up near the level crossing and beyond. They are more like tank traps than potholes.
This seems to be the normal in Stone do 1 or 2 potholes and leaves the rest . A prime example is on the one way system did 1 and ignore the rest.
