Community groups in Stone and across the county are being invited to join in the celebrations for the first ever Staffordshire Day on 1st May.

Staffordshire Day will take place on Sunday 1st May and is set to become an annual fixture on the county’s calendar, attracting more visitors to the area and helping local residents show their pride in their county.
The date, chosen by the public last year, marks the anniversary of the creation of Staffordshire’s world-famous Wedgwood pottery company in 1759. And, as well as a host of events and special offers from many tourism attractions on the day, residents are being encouraged to get involved and organise their own community activities.
[box type=”shadow” align=”aligncenter” ]Mark Winnington, Cabinet Member for Economy at Staffordshire County Council and Vice Chair of Destination Staffordshire who are behind the campaign, said: “With 1st May fast approaching and our first ever Staffordshire Day, we are all getting very excited about the celebrations.
“We don’t often shout about the many great things about Staffordshire, so having this day will help us tell the world about what a great place it really is. There’s lots of organisations and companies on board now and more and more events being added each day. But the day is for everyone and we want people to join in the celebrations by organising their own events and street parties as well.”[/box]
In the north of the county, World of Wedgwood will be celebrating the best of local produce with their Staffordshire Day food festival, while Trentham Monkey Forest and Middleport Pottery in Stoke-on-Trent will all be putting on a range of activities. Rudyard Lake near Leek is the venue for a ‘Day at the Lake’ family fun arts event. In East Staffordshire, the National Brewery Centre, the Hilton at St George’s Park and the National Forest Adventure Farm are among the attractions organising events and offering discounts on the day.
In Cannock, the Museum of Cannock Chase will be celebrating Staffordshire’s history and legacy, with arts and crafts on a Staffordshire theme, and music and dance reflecting the area and its folklore. There will also be a range of stalls and displays from local history groups, libraries, coal mining historical societies and the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty unit.
