Consultation deadline looms for 100+ housing plan for ABB site

Updated ABB PlansResidents have just ten days to provide feedback on the plans to redevelop the former ABB/Hitachi building on Stone’s Oulton Road.

We initially reported in October 2022 about the outline planning application for the Stonefield Works site, and after a series of back and forths, updated plans are available for consideration.

The Neighbour Consultation Expiry Date for the application is set for Wednesday, January 24, 2024 – so those in favour or against the application can lodge their comments.

Here’s a summary of what Hitachi has sought to address in their revised plans:

Responding to Local Concerns Originally proposing 130 dwellings, Hitachi has scaled down the plan to 114 homes. This change reflects the company’s commitment to addressing concerns about site capacity and local infrastructure impacts. The updated application includes a revised flood risk and drainage strategy, ensuring the development is safe and sustainable.

Community and Environment at the Forefront The new proposal also underscores Hitachi’s focus on ecological conservation and enhancing local green spaces. Detailed assessments have been conducted to mitigate any potential environmental impacts, with a keen emphasis on preserving local wildlife and natural habitats.

Contributing to Local Growth and Welfare Further demonstrating its commitment to the community, Hitachi’s revised plan includes contributions towards local education, traffic management, and affordable housing initiatives. These measures are designed to support Stone’s growth while maintaining its unique character and quality of life.

A Vision for Sustainable Living The revised development plan aims to provide much-needed housing and to do so in a way that respects and enhances the local environment. The focus on affordable homes and improved access to amenities and transport links positions the Stonefield Works redevelopment as a blueprint for sustainable urban living.

Ensuring Transparency and Ongoing Dialogue Hitachi Energy remains open to ongoing dialogue with residents and local authorities, ensuring that all voices are heard and that the final development reflects the best interests of the Stone community.

Currently, 48 objections to the plans of the 50 comments have been lodged and added to the application.

The application number is 22/35231/OUT and can be accessed and viewed in full on the Stafford Borough Council Planning Portal.

It’s bad enough to get out of Airdale Road as it is with the volume of traffic. How the school children from Alleynes have to cross the road is scary. There is also the problem of GP appointments or should I say lack of. I don’t think we have the infrastructure in place for another 300 properties.

  • There appears to be twelve properties lying parallel to Oulton road. Most homes now have two cars. Are there adequate parking spaces for 24 cars on the new road parallel to Oulton road?

  • Why have you not drawn lines between the houses to clearly identify the actual number of properties? The above plan is misleading

I’m I right, your planning to pull down the old lotus listed building? I think you should keep it and use it for leisure, community. This is part of Stone’s heritage.

I’m not against new houses but I think the Doctors, schools etc are at full capacity already. May be some thought should go into this!
