Council plans to make Church Street “One way”

Proposed start of one way system

Stone Town Council will meet next week to discuss Staffordshire County Councils plans to make Church Street in Stone one way

In Spring County Councillor Jill Hood put forward the idea for the scheme to the County Council following feedback from local residents and businesses.

Staffordshire County Council is proposing to install a new Oneway traffic management system within Church Street, Stone. The plans outline that this change will improve road safety, on-street parking and allow local businesses to operate more effectively.

The proposal is to turn Church Street Oneway from the junction with Lichfield Road where the current Feeding the Fit Cafe and Wedding Belles bridal shop is. The one way will continue around Church Street exiting at the current southernly entrance to Church Street.

New illuminated signs will be installed at the start and end points of the new one-way system to inform traffic of the restrictions. Additionally, a new island will be built before the right turn of Church Street, to discourage traffic exiting Redhill Road from driving ahead into Church Street.

Any existing signs in Church Street facing the wrong direction of travel will be removed, in particular, signage relating to overhead power lines.

Residents can feedback their support, objections or concerns directly to local ward councillor Rob Kenney at robert.kenney@ntlworld.com who can then present residents feedback directly to the Town Councils meeting.
