Stone residents should have received their Council Tax bills this week and it’s good news on the whole, with most local authorities that make up the charge setting a zero per cent increase.
Stafford Borough Council, Staffordshire County Council, Staffordshire Police and Stoke-on-Trent & Staffordshire Fire Authority have all set the same charge for 2011/12 as they did for 2010/11.
The only local authority to increase the bill – albeit only by 0.2 per cent – is Stone Town Council.
For Band B properties, it’s increased from £34.61 to £34.67, a rise of 6p.
The total bill for a Band B property is £1,142.84.

The lack of comments re Alex Hardies post means one of two things, either nobody can think of anything the council has done in the past four years or the people of Stone are overcome with apathy.

I thought the 7p extra was good news this year until I read the comment by Keith Wright, which reminded me of last years large increase. I have never really followed Council business in the past but now I intend to take a greater interest in future. From the little I have been told, there seems to be too much political in fighting between the parties representing the people of Stone. I would be interested to hear of any significant improvement in our affairs in the last two of three years.
The Borough Council seem to control our finances and as we have some Borough Councillors representing Stone, I am not sure why we need a Town (Parish?) Council. I don’t mean to be negative and would appreciatesome positive information on this topic

The fact that Stone Town Council are the only recipients listed on the council tax bill to have applied an increase should come as no surprise ,as they have broken their promise to refund last years 50% increase.
The County, Borough, police and fire brigade have all gone without any increase and they at least provide a service I’d
like to know what STC have done in the last four years to justify an increase!
