Two women in Stafford Borough have been fined for not cleaning up after their dogs close to schools.
When challenged by an officer, neither women had bags to remove their dog’s mess.
The Council in Fulford has been running a campaign to reduce dog fouling, the first incident saw a woman get out of her car with 4 dogs, one of which left a mess. The incident occurred near St Matthews School in Rough Close.
And in Old Road, Stone, opposite Christchurch Academy, a student was handed a a £75 fixed penalty notice when she did not clean the mess left by her dog.
Councillor Frank Finlay, Cabinet Member for Environment and Health, said: “It is disappointing that there are still inconsiderate dog owners who cannot be bothered to clean up after their pets. We have had so much success recently in reducing the amount of incidents across the Borough – working alongside responsible owners, parish councils and members of the community – and we want to ensure that good work continues.”
He added: “Dog fouling is not only disgusting, it can have serious health repercussions, and we operate a zero tolerance approach to this – as well as any other forms of littering. So if you don’t clean up then expect to be fined or prosecuted. All dog walkers should have bags with them to remove the mess and they can be disposed of in any public bin.”
