The Staffordshire Dignity in Care Awards are inviting people across Staffordshire to nominate carers, work colleagues, friends and family members for their prestigious awards.
Now in their fifth year, the awards recognise groups and individuals who care for the most vulnerable people in society with dignity and compassion. They were launched on ‘Dignity Action Day’ on 1 February, are open to those who work in the care sector as well as informal and young carers.
Michelle Dale, Registered Manager at Burley Heights, whose staff team won the community award in 2018 said: “Winning a dignity award last year was brilliant and helped us to celebrate the achievements of both the service users and the staff. It also showed the team just what a huge difference the work they do really makes.
“The whole celebration day is a wonderful event where we all get to hear some amazing stories and share best practice ideas that benefit the whole community. We’ll certainly be entering again this year and I would encourage other companies to do the same.”
There are seven award categories this year, including: Dignity Champion, Leadership Award, Young Dignity Champion and Informal Carer of the Year.
Alan White, Deputy Leader at Staffordshire County Council and Cabinet Member for Health, Care and Wellbeing said “Our Dignity in Care Awards give us a great opportunity to celebrate and thank the thousands of carers who do a wonderful job, always going that extra mile for the people they look after.
“The awards have been a huge success since we launched them back in 2014. It was also encouraging to see the Care Quality Commission referencing the awards within their reports on some local Outstanding Care Homes and the positive impact they have had on staff. So, if you know a brilliant carer, dedicated young carer or a great care company then please get them nominated”.
This year’s awards are also running alongside a major recruitment campaign to encourage more people to join the adult social care sector. People can find out more at https://www.everydayisdifferent.com
