Cricket club gets hairy for stroke unit

David Hawbrook’s son George won an ECB award in 2011

Members of Stone Cricket Club will be getting hairy in November to raise money for the stroke unit at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire.

The cricket club’s secretary, David Hawbrook, suffered a stroke earlier this year and has been treated at the unit in Stoke-on-Trent. Now members of the club want to raise £2,300 to buy a rehabilitation chair for the stroke unit – by ‘growing their facial hair to pay for a rehab chair’.

David’s son and Stone Cricket Club player George Hawbrook said: “He’s recovering after the stroke and received the most wonderful care at the acute stroke unit in Stoke.

“We want to thank them for all they’ve done, so club members, and staff from the Dog and Doublet at Sandon, will be growing moustaches and goatees during November to hopefully raise enough money to buy a rehabilitation chair for the unit.”
