Crown of India retains its title as ‘King’ of the Tapas Trail

The Crown of India Tapas WinnerFor the second year running The Crown of India was voted top of the tapas pops

The results are in following the second edition of the Stone Food & Drink Festival Tapas Trail.

The Tapas Trail took place in the week running up to the 2017 Food & Drink Festival.

The event is inspired by one that takes place in Stafford Borough’s Spanish twin town, Tarragona. The trail is sponsored by local accountant Bob Knight of R A Knight & Co. Bob has enjoyed the Spanish edition many times and is delighted to bring it to Stone.

In 2017 there were 5 restaurants on the trail; each serving a different tapas style dish for £3.50 each.

The  restaurants involved were:

  • The Wheatsheaf, Oulton
  • Little Seeds
  • The Crown & Anchor
  • Granvilles
  • The Crown of India

On the trail diners had the opportunity to complete a score card, marking each of the venues. Once completed the cards were sent in to enter a prize draw to win a meal for two.
The top scoring venue was also to be commended, in the form of a Tapas Trail certificate.

For the second year running, the winning restaurant was The Crown of India on Market Square, Stone. Their tapas-style ‘Cinnamon flavoured curry with rice‘ was a hit with trail’s diners.

The lucky winner of prize draw, who will enjoy a meal for two at The Crown of India, is Matt Mathais.

Food & Drink Festival Chairman, Richard Stevens, said:

“We’re delighted with the success of the 2017 Tapas Trail – this event has all the hallmarks of a festival classic and we’re hoping that even more local restaurants and bars get in on the act in 2018.”

The Stone Food & Drink Festival takes place on the first weekend of October. In 2018 the festival will take place between Friday 5th October and Sunday 7th October.
