Cyril Unsworth has completed his motorbike marathon to raise money for a new hall at St John’s Church.
Cyril, aged 75, rode to 25 different St John’s churches in 25 different counties, covering over 1,500 miles – and asked sponsors to donate £25 towards the cause. The amount that Cyril managed to raise will be revealed soon.
Cyril’s aim is to swell the fundraising coffers for a new church hall. The current wooden community building at St John’ Church in Granville Terrace had been in use for more than half a century but it’s been closed for the last seven months because of problems in the roof.
The church has decided to demolish the existing hall and build a new, modern facility in its place for the whole community to use.
Cyril said: “I’d like to thank all the people who have supported me in this venture, and there have been many. I hope that we, together, can build something to that will be of use in our community for a very long time to come. God Bless and a very sincere thank you.”
