The International Day of Peace on Friday 21st September will be marked in the town this year thanks to Stone’s Yarn of Ale knitting group.
Special activities and celebrations will take place all across the world over the 2012 Peace Day Weekend, including festivals, concerts, a global Peace Wave with moments of silence at noon in every time zone, and much more. The International Day of Peace, also known as Peace Day’, was established by a United Nations resolution in 1981 to coincide with the opening of the General Assembly. The first Peace Day was celebrated in September 1982. Find out more at www.internationaldayofpeace.org
The event in Stone takes place at The Hayes, just off Longton Road opposite the fish farm, from 5pm on Friday 21st September and has been organised by Stone’s Yarn of Ale knitting group which meets every week in the Royal Exchange pub.
Alison Kirkham from the group said: “All over the world people mark this day in different ways and people often get together to do creative things so we decided it would be good to get anyone who was interested to come along, bring knitting, crochet or anything they fancied doing for a few hours, or just bring themselves and a friend or their family.
“We are asking people to bring some food to share and something to drink and just meet in the spirit of peace. People can contact me on 07807 679977 or Jo Gent on 07724 662556 for more information”
