On Sunday 9th March 2025, people across the UK will come together to mark five years since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic with a special Day of Reflection.
This nationwide event offers an opportunity to remember those who lost their lives, reflect on the sacrifices made by so many, and recognise the impact the pandemic had on all of us.
The area includes a seat and cherry blossom trees, and visitors are welcome to hang a label with a personal message on one of the trees or lay a flower in remembrance.

All messages placed on the trees will be collected by the Council and preserved as part of the town’s heritage collection, forming a lasting tribute to this period in history.
The COVID commemoration area is located along Trent Close, near the Peace Pole and the car park.
Councillor Jill Hood, Chairman of the Council’s Tourism and Town Promotion Sub-Committee, said:
“The COVID-19 pandemic had an impact on us all. The Day of Reflection is an opportunity to remember both those that we lost during the pandemic, and those that worked tirelessly and showed acts of kindness during this unprecedented time.”
Thank you for doing this memorial it means so much. My husband Peter passed on 20th April 2020. It was the most awful time. My love to others that where affected.x
