The DeLoreans in Stone’s Market Square on Back To The Future Day!

Two DeLorean owners from Stone made sure that Back To The Future Day was celebrated in style in the town!

October 21st 2015 is the date that Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) and Marty McFly (Michael J Fox) travelled to in the second instalment of the Back To The Future film trilogy back in 1989. They arrived to a futuristic world of flying cars and hover boards.

While the film’s vision of the future has not wholly materialised, fans of their time-travelling car, the DeLorean, marked the day in style in Stone by exhibiting their cars in the High Street to the interest of passers-by. These 30-year-old time machines are lovingly preserved by local owners Matthew Harte and Ian Titley.

Nicola Harris tries a DeLorean out for size!

At the start of the 1980s, controversial US industrialist John DeLorean brought his car manufacturing plant to Dunmurry in west Belfast with the lure of significant government financial support. Although the factory initially injected some much needed optimism in Troubles-era Northern Ireland, its stay was short-lived and ultimately ended in failure. When the first Back To The Future film was released in 1985, the DeLorean plant had already been closed for three years. Fewer than 9,000 cars had rolled off the production line at the Dunmurry plant.

However, the release of the film, using a Delorean rather than the original plan to use a Refrigerator, ensured the car would stay in the hearts of the fans and the cars continue to attract attention whenever they are driven. With their stainless steel body, rear engine and gull wing doors, they have a unique design and look that attract onlookers and interest from all.

And they certainly did in Stone High Street on Back To The Future Day!
