Drink-drivers to be named and shamed

Drink-drivers in Staffordshire will be named on Staffordshire Police’s social media accounts throughout December as the force continues its annual festive drink-drive crackdown.

On Friday 13th December the force will publish on social media the names of more than 20 who have already been charged with drink-driving and associated offences since the start of the month. Daily updates will follow until the end of December. This additional consequence of drink-driving is aimed at keeping the roads of Staffordshire safer.

Details will also be shared across the local Twitter accounts for the areas and many will also see themselves named on the highly popular Staffordshire Police Facebook page.

Ch Inspector Paul Trevor from Staffordshire Police said: “The actions of drink-drivers who risk their own and other people’s lives can end in tragedy for families. We hope that this additional consequence will make drivers think before they drink and drive.

“We are conducting road-side stop checks and drivers involved in collisions should expect to be breathalysed. Even the morning after a night out drivers could be still be over the limit. Mistakenly some believe if they have eaten and slept they will be OK to drive.”

The operations will continue over the next few weeks.
