A Stone schoolboy’s poster has won a county-wide competition aimed at helping to keep children safe online.
Primary and middle school pupils designed posters to raise awareness of internet safety. Staffordshire Schools E-safety Group, made up of children at Christchurch Middle School in Stone, co-ordinated the competition and over 100 entries were submitted.
The overall winner was Dylan Kennerell-Walters from Walton Priory Middle School in Walton for his ‘If you go on to the net today’ design. Part of the prize was for Dylan to visit Staffordshire County Council’s Print Commissioning Services to see his design go through the print process. The poster will be displayed in Staffordshire schools, libraries and youth centres.
The competition tied in with the county council’s implementation of e-safety software across its schools over the last 18 months.
Deputy county council leader and cabinet member for finance and transformation Ian Parry said: “E-safety is extremely important for our young people as they use the internet on a daily basis. It’s an invaluable learning resource but unfortunately carries its dangers.
“We were one of the first councils in the country to install such a sophisticated safety system on our schools network. It’s important that we educate young people about responsible internet use and make them aware of the dangers, but our e-safety system can act as a safety net.”
