An award-winning Stone brewery that keeps its own bees and donates its spent hops to local allotment holders has been rewarded for its environmentally-friendly credentials.

Lymestone Brewery has received the Staffordshire Environmental Quality Award for its sustainable approach to business, working to reduce any negative impact on the environment and its involvement in the town community.

In accrediting Lymestone Brewery the awarding panel said: “Lymestone Brewery has been trading for three years and prides itself on its use of local suppliers and its location in Stone. Every beer produced contains the town’s name! It is currently developing its facilities for more brewery tours and is exploring extended promotion of its recipes and suppliers. When it has developed its facilities it will become a major micro-brewery attraction in Staffordshire.”

Brewery owner and director Ian Bradford, known to everyone as Brad the Brewer, said: “I’m very proud to be able to tell people that we have gained this award. As a family business, ethical trading is of paramount importance to us.

“Our brewers grains benefit a local farmer and we recycle as much of our waste material as possible. In fact, the spent hops from the brewing process at Lymestone are all used by local gardeners and allotment holders – they’re a fantastic mulch and soil improver! We even have our own bee hives on the roof and brew award-winning beer with our bees’ honey.

“We are proud of being in Stone and want people to celebrate this fact with us by coming along to see the brewery and to see what else Stone and Staffordshire has to offer.”

The brewery is open between 8am and 5pm from Monday to Friday, as well as evenings and weekends by appointment.
