Emergency services attended Stone Train Station tonight after a person was fatally struck by a train.
According to the National Rail report, the incident took place north of Stone station, on the southbound line, between Stoke-on-Trent and Stafford. National Rail was made aware of the incident shortly after it happened, at around 9:35 tonight.
A member of the public told A Little Bit of Stone that they heard a scream followed by a bang, before realising the incident was on the train tracks outside. Another witness told us that at 22:55 the train was still stationary on the line, however, a body has been removed and forensics remain on the scene.
Affected train services are Avanti West Coast, CrossCountry and London Northwestern Railway.
Avanti West Coast, a train operator, said: “Due to a person being hit by a train between Stafford and Stoke-On-Trent some lines are disrupted.”
National Rail said: “The emergency services are dealing with an incident between Stoke-on-Trent and Stafford. As a result of this, trains may be delayed or diverted via Crewe.
“This is expected until the end of the day.”
CrossCountry said: “Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident between Stoke-On-Trent and Stafford all lines are blocked.”
London Northwestern said: “Train services running through these stations may be delayed by up to 40 minutes or running non stop between Stafford and Crewe. Stoke-On-Trent, Stone, Kidsgrove and Alsager will not be served by train. Disruption is expected to last until around 23:00 today (31 July).”
