Motorists travelling in Stone are being advised of additional highway works near the A34 Walton Roundabout in Stone, due to start on Monday 13 February, which will see a daytime one-way road closure.

Staffordshire County Council’s highways teams will be carrying out additional drainage investigations along the B5026 Eccleshall Road.

The work will be carried out during the day and is expected to take one week to complete. To make sure the works can be carried out safely, a one-way road closure will be in place from 9.30am to 3pm each day, between the A34 Walton Roundabout and Tilling Drive.

Traffic will only be permitted to exit the A34 Walton Roundabout and travel towards Tilling Drive.

A diversion will be in place via the B5026 to Eccleshall, then along the A519, A51 and A34 to Stone.

The essential works are needed ahead of a major resurfacing scheme planned for April, part of a £5.2 million investment by the county council into improving eight major gateways into the county’s towns.

David Williams, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport at Staffordshire County Council said:

“These essential works are being carried out ahead of a major resurfacing scheme later in April, which will help to prolong the life of the road.

“For the safety of crews and road users, a one-way temporary road closure will be in place during off-peak times to help minimise any disruption.  Access will be maintained for residents and businesses during the works where possible and I would like to thank people in advance for their patience and co-operation.”

Staffordshire County Council have advised that details of the works will be available on the one.network website.

There still seem to be a lot of Pot-Hole in and around Stone…..one on the Lichfield Street outside the Post Office recently punctured and ruined a tyre on one of our cars costing us £160 to replace, we complained to Stafford Council and got £100 towards the repair. The Pot-Hole is still there!

Well the one.network site shows nothing of these roadworks at the moment, typical Staffs County Council…

It’s a pity it cannot be done when ½ term occurs. The situation will create chaos for parent & transport requiredfor parents of children attending pirehill First school & Walton priory middle school. Can’t temporarily traffic lights be used to “expel” traffic by using the forbidden cut-through between tilling drive & Brooms Road leading to the roundabout at junction of A34 & A51. This could happen just during the time the road works are taking place.

    • You ain’t seen nothing yet wait untill HS2 Starts you will have 2 Years of disruption what will your little dears do then.
