Stone’s Lymestone Brewery is inviting real ale lovers to cast their votes and help them choose their first ever lager at a blind tasting event in December.
The family-run brewery has built an enviable reputation over the last eight years for its award-winning range of cask and bottled ales and now it’s turned its attention to producing an equally high quality lager.
Sarah Bradford – daughter of brewery owners Brad and Viv – has been working on a Lymestone Lager since joining the business in the summer and she’s brewed six varieties using three different yeasts.
On Friday 16 December an election will be held at the brewery to find out which one is most popular, with the winner to be served up at Lymestone’s pubs in Newcastle (Lymestone Vaults) and Stone (The Borehole). On the night, people will be able to sample a half of all six and cast their vote for their favourite.
Sarah and Ian will also explain the production process and take voters on a tour of the brewery. The event will also be raising money for local charities with all proceeds from ticket sales shared between charities who turn up on the night.
Lymestone’s festive bottle gift packs will also be available to buy, as well as nine, 18 and 36-pint beer boxes for those Christmas get-togethers.
Sarah, who will be producing her own range of ales and lagers in 2017 at the brewery under the Stray Cat name, wanted to bring something different to Lymestone. She said:
“We’ve all been working really hard on the lager and I can’t wait to see what people think of the six varieties – and which one comes out on top.”
Sarah has had a great start to her brewing career. In October she scooped a SIBA (Society of Independent Brewers) gold medal for Lymestone’s Stone The Crows bottled ale at the Birmingham Beer Festival – the brewery’s first SIBA gold.
Head brewer Ian ‘Brad’ Bradford added:
“It’s great having Sarah on board and a Lymestone lager was top of her list for what she wanted to get stuck into first. We’ve all been sampling the six varieties she’s produced and to be honest we’re not sure which one is best. So it’s time for an election!”
