An exhibition is being held on Monday (14th December) on proposed changes to the Moddershall Valley Conservation Area.

The drop-in exhibition is being held at Moddershall Village Hall between 5pm and 8pm. The borough’s conservation officer will be there to answer any questions.

Stafford Borough Council is currently consulting on its ‘appraisal and boundary review’ of the conservation area.

The Moddershall Valley Conservation Area was designated by Staffordshire County Council in 1979 and has not been reviewed since that date. Stafford Borough Council is currently re-assessing it as part of a review of all conservation areas in the borough.

A draft conservation area appraisal has been produced and a consultation feedback form is available on the council’s website – deadline for responses is 15th January 2016.

A number of additions are proposed to the conservation area, including the Victorian railway bridge by The Mill hotel and restaurant, and three areas are set to be removed. You can see the full conservation appraisal HERE.

[box type=”info” ]The Moddershall Valley is a unique area of industrial archaeological interest set in beautiful countryside. It features a rare collection of 18th and 19th century water-powered flint mills that helped to power the pottery industry in Stoke-on-Trent.

A significant proportion of buildings and structures survive from the 11 that operated in the Valley. One of them is Mosty Lea Water Mill, which is still operational and is opened to the public regularly thanks to a team of volunteers.[/box]
