Tickets have gone on sale for the showpiece classical concert of this year’s Stone Music and Arts Festival.
‘Music For A New Age: Great Minds Of The Enlightenment’ is a concert of organ and harpsichord music that will be held at Christ Church on Saturday 28th May.
The music of Bach, Handel and more will be played by renowned Oxford keyboard scholar Joanna West, with words by Josiah Wedgwood (played by Ray Johnson).
The evening aims to capture the time in history when Josiah Wedgwood was influential, not only in the pottery world but because of his work in getting the Trent and Mersey Canal project up and running. The company Wedgwood originally formed, with its pottery in Barlaston, is the major sponsor for this year’s Music and Arts Festival.
Like all church organs, the one at Christ Church is to one side, making it more difficult for the audience to see the organist. To overcome this, special ‘organ cams’ will be installed to allow the audience to watch Joanna’s hands and feet as she plays.
Tickets cost £20, which include a wine and canapes reception. For Friends of the Festival, they cost just £15. They’re available from the Outdoor Pursuits Co-operative in Radford Street and Tim Toft Violins in Station Road. Alternatively, email k.moss@wlv.ac.uk
