Firefighters battled a blaze in a Stone High Street building for more than two hours over the weekend.

Two crews from Stone, the aerial ladder platform from Longton and a crew from Leek attended the fire at Hilton House in the High Street at around 2.15pm on Saturday. In Market Square near the library, Hilton House is home to businesses including Taste of India, The Lounge and Crimpers hair salon. It is thought that all businesses are unaffected following the blaze.

It was described by a Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesman as a “small fire” in the roof space on the third-floor level, which was started accidentally by workmen. A building inspector was due to attend the site today.
