Firefighters will be out and about in Walton over the next couple of weeks encouraging residents to have a free home fire risk check.
The checks can either be carried out there and then if it is convenient or they can take contact details and arrange for a more suitable time.
Crew manager Mike Burnside said: “A Home Fire Risk Check helps us to help keep you safe in your home. A firefighter or technician will come to your home and walk through each room in the property with you and identify any potential fire hazards.
“We will also check your smoke alarms are correctly positioned and working properly and if they aren’t, or if you don’t have any, we will fit new one free of charge during the visit. Smoke alarms are essential and there should be one fitted on every level of your home. They should also be tested on a weekly basis to ensure they are working properly.
“All members of Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service carry photographic identification and will not be offended if you ask to see it or if you want to check with your local station that they are who they say they are.
“Alternatively, if we call around and it isn’t convenient, we can take your name and telephone number and give you a call to arrange a more suitable time to pop back. If you’d prefer to call us to arrange, we can provide a leaflet with our freephone number on instead which we’ll also post through the letterbox if no one is home when we knock on.”
