First artist’s impressions of new fire station

More details – and the first artist’s impressions – have been revealed about Stone’s new community fire station.

Work will get under way on the new station in October – which will cost around £3m and take about 16 months to complete. A temporary fire station will be created on the site first to enable the existing building to be demolished. Service provision at Stone will be unaffected.

The new station will include training facilities for firefighters, including for LGV testing and training and training for road traffic collisions.

Facilities that will be available for local community use will include a community meeting room for up to 20 people and an interview room for up to three people. Community groups will also be able to share the station’s food preparation area and use the gym facilities provided. Qualified instructors are present.

The existing station at The Fillybrooks is a retained station and was built in 1975. The new station will become operational in November 2014 and the building will open to the community in February 2015.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service was given the green light for the new station at Stone, and 10 others across Staffordshire, last month in a private finance initiative (PFI).

I am interested to read that Stone Fire Station will include training facilities for firefighters. This is currently done at Pirehill HQ, so alongside the moving of the control room out of the county, will this spell the end of Fire HQ at Pirehill?
