Free wildlife themed activities will be available for children & young people with disabilities and their families, aiming to give them a chance to head outdoors & enjoy mother nature.
Aiming High family events, run by the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust will be held across the county, and will give disabled youngsters aged 8 – 16 the chance to try out a variety of wildlife themed activities.
Aiming High sessions being delivered this summer are taking place at:
- Highgate Common – near Wombourne on Saturday 24 September
- Apedale Country Park – Newcastle-under-Lyme on Sunday 25 September
- The Wolseley Centre – near Rugeley on Thursday 27 October
Staffordshire County Council’s Aiming High for Disabled Children Program will be funding all the sessions. The program provides activities targeted towards children with disabilities & additional needs.
Shaun Rimmer, from Staffordshire Wildlife Trust, who will be delivering the sessions, said: “Aiming High gives family events gives carers and sibling of children with disabilities the opportunity to learn new skills from exploring areas, to building a fire, toasting marshmallows to den building. There are so many simple pleasures which youngsters can experience during the events surrounded by other children and staff who support them.’
Those attending should wear appropriate outdoor clothing and footwear.
Anyone who would like to book onto the Aiming High events should call 0300 111 8007 and select option six. Or, for further information, call Shaun Rimmer on 01889 880100 or email s.rimmer@staffs-wildlife.org.uk. Booking for the first event is free, and then £9 for subsequent events.

Sounds like a wonderful program. I wish more communities were this involved.
