A free adult numeracy programme is being offered by Staffordshire County Council to parents, grandparents and carers in Stone to help them support their children with maths homework and exam preparation.
The programme, coordinated by the council’s Multiply scheme, offers a range of courses designed to boost adults’ knowledge and confidence to assist with their children’s learning at all school levels, from key stages one to four.
Courses are available both online and in-person and are delivered by professional training organisations and the county’s colleges. The Multiply scheme also offers other numeracy courses to help people manage household budgeting and support them in obtaining qualifications. The council secured £4.2 million pounds from the Government as part of the £570 million-pound Multiply scheme.
Staffordshire County Council’s deputy leader and cabinet member for economy and skills, Philip White, emphasises the benefits of the programme.
“Improving numeracy skills at any age helps to increase confidence and manage day-to-day tasks, from household budgeting to helping children with maths homework and exam preparation.
The Multiply programme offers free and easy-to-access numeracy courses to suit everyone, whether that’s in person or online and includes one-to-one guidance sessions.
We’re working with local providers to support people where they need it most, whether it’s managing your finances, supporting children with homework, or gaining qualifications which can lead to employment opportunities.”
The programme is available to anyone aged 19 and over and those seeking a qualification who do not have GCSE maths grade C or equivalent. To learn more about the programme and how to participate, visit https://bit.ly/ExploreFreeCourses.
