Residents and organisations in Stone can apply to close their streets for free to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.
Stafford Borough Council has waived the usual road closure fees to help communities commemorate Victory in Europe (VE) Day and Victory over Japan (VJ) Day without additional costs.
The initiative has been well received in the past for national celebrations, including the coronation of King Charles III in 2023 and the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II.
Councillor Aidan Godfrey, Leader of Stafford Borough Council, said:
“We know how much our communities respect and appreciate the sacrifices made during World War II, both at home and abroad.
Many will want to pay tribute, and we want to remove financial and administrative barriers to holding these commemorations with family, friends and neighbours.”
With VE Day on Thursday 8 May, the council will waive administration fees for street closures on the bank holiday weekend before (3 to 5 May) and the following weekend (10 and 11 May). VJ Day falls on Friday 15 August.
