Friendly people needed to trial Chumbrella in Stone

Chumbrella

A Stone artist is looking for people in the town who can help to get people talking!

A ‘chumbrella’ is a distinctive umbrella which promotes small acts of kindness and friendliness by connecting people who are willing to share a shelter.

The project was created by Oulton-based artist Sarah Nadin, who says Chumbrella is her response to a social apathy evident in towns and cities. She said: “We are surrounded by people, however many of us are afraid to say ‘hello’. It seems now we prefer to text than talk.”

Since July 2014, the project has developed from hand-painted prototype to a series of flashmobs in Stoke-on-Trent. Sarah has been delighted by the response and support the project has gained in this short time. She’s currently being mentored by prolific social artist Dan Thompson and has received support from Appetite Stoke’s Kitchen fund.

Sarah is now particularly keen to put Stone on the #chumbrella map.  She is looking for participants who would be willing to trial the project and give feedback. Chumbrella could be used by an individual, or become part of an event, market or festival. Your feedback will then help Sarah to develop #chumbrella into becoming a nationwide project.
