Embroidered and beaded products from South Africa will be exhibited and sold on Saturday 8th November between 10am and 3pm at Stone Railway Station.
Everything on sale has been made by a special group of ladies from a remote part of South Africa, high in the Lebombo mountains. They call themselves The Fancy Stitch Group.
These women live in a poverty-stricken part of South Africa ravaged by AIDS. The life expectancy is just 39. Employment opportunities are scarce – the ladies are forced to raise their children and orphans single-handedly on very little or no income.
Only 5% of families have the luxury of running water. This is an enormous problem, especially in the dry season. The charity ‘Action for Ingwavuma’ are raising funds for water tanks for the most needy families. Orphans of ladies who embroidered for Fancy Stitch also need help.
The day will include two short presentations on their way of life, at 11am and 2pm. Everyone is welcome to attend, and encouraged to bring along friends. There’s ample free parking, and refreshments will be served. For further details of the event, call 01782 791016 or email nkj@onetel.com
