From first date promise to owning a Stone icon – meet the new owners of Granvilles

Granvilles StoneGrant and Louise had their first date at Granvilles and during the date joked about buying the place should it come up for sale – we catch up with the couple to hear how they have become the new owners of a Stone institution and what they have in store.

Prior to the current pandemic, and multiple lockdowns, Adam and Mandy put their Stone eatery, bar and live event venue “Granvilles” up for sale, continuing to operate it whilst a buyer was sought.

The couple had owned, renovated and operated this Stone icon for 37 years but with lockdown 3 being lifted Adam and Mandy posted a wonderful farewell video as they confirmed that they would leave re-opening to new blood when Granvilles was sold.

Now in the middle of Summer 2021 we’re pleased to catch up with new owners, Grant and Louise Pullen.

Hospitality businesses have been especially hard hit during the pandemic so we were keen to hear how Grant and Louise had come to purchase Granville’s!

Grant told us:

“Myself and Louise had our first date in Granville’s and joked if it ever came up for sale we would buy it.  Obviously, at that stage we never thought we would get married, never mind Granville’s would ever be up for sale, but here we are, it must have been fate ha ha!”

Grant went on to explain:

“I’ve always been in the hospitality industry and been a head chef for numerous years. Louise has been in business for over 20 years and owns two children’s nurseries in Staffordshire.”

When the closure and sale was announced people were concerned about what the future had in store, Grant told A Little Bit of Stone what’s happening and what they will be offering:

“Granvilles will be closed for an extensive refurbishment and we are hoping to reopen towards the end of September/October

Granville’s will specialise in serving a fresh homemade gastro menu from locally sourced produce.  Our menus will include homemade pies, steaks and other favourites.

We will also serve sandwiches, cakes and coffees throughout the day and an extensive cocktail menu.”

But what about the live music, open mic and comedy events that we’re all so used to indulging in? Grant was pleased to add:

“We will continue to host live entertainment in the evening.  From the famous open mic on Monday evenings to live bands on Friday and Saturday evenings.

We will also host Christmas party nights throughout December for your long-awaited Christmas parties.”

If you’d like to follow their plans as they move through their renovation and re-opening you can find them on Facebook and also on a new website.

How lovely. My husband and I had our first date at Granville’s back in 2009 having met on an online dating site. Good luck to the new owners.
