Fun in the sun at Picnic In The Park!

What a fantastic day in Walton on Saturday for Picnic In The Park.

Posters for the event said this – “Let’s get together for no reason other than to celebrate being a community” – and residents of the old MoD estate in Walton certainly did that.

The ABC park off Whitemill Lane was transformed, with live music, African drum workshops, face painting and glitter art, storytelling, raffles, tombolas – and lots of people enjoying the sunshine! The event also raised almost £400 for the Swynnerton Roses Memorial Fund.

The event was organised by Chris Frid and Paul Harrison, with help from a band of hardy volunteers.

Paul said: “I can’t believe how much the community have raised in four hours. It was a tremendous achievement and I’m so proud of the community where I live.

“I’d like to say a massive thank you to The Stone Local, Manor Hill First School, Mumbles Nursery, Londis (Walton Stores), Walton Fish Bar, Pet Pleasure, Clearsky, Room 2 Room Interiors, Shires Vets, Salon 36, Birchill & Watson, Pour les Pieds and Stone’s only ice-cream van for their kind donations. Plus all the volunteers and Stone Youth & Community Centre for making the event so special.”
