People have been urged to get behind a fundraising campaign to keep a bit of Stone’s Medieval history in the town where it belongs.
The 12th century seal that was discovered by a metal detector in Cobham, Surrey, was recently named the 17th best historical find in the UK on Britain’s Secret Treasures, a TV collaboration between ITV and the British Museum.
£8,000 is needed to keep the seal in our Stone, so please support the campaign if you can.

There are a number of fundraising events on the way too, including the sale of limited edition resin casts of the seal. Terry and Monica Darlington, who have written books (“Narrow Dog to Carcassone”; “Narrow Dog to Indian River” and “Narrow Dog to Wigan Pier”) on their travels aboard their narrowboat Phyllis May will give a talk on their journeys on Tuesday 2nd October in Priory Hall – more details later.
There will also be an illustrated talk on historic seals and Stone Priory at Sandon Hall in October (details being finalised) and a booklet is being produced on the Stone seal, its importance to the Priory and the dissolution of Stone Priory.
