Stone Historical and Civic Society are holding a fundraising evening in aid of the appeal to keep the 12th century Stone Priory seal matrix – which was discovered in a field in Surrey last year – in the town where it belongs.
The event is at Sandon Hall on Thursday 11th October at 7.30pm and consists of two talks. The first talk will be by Richard Nichols (Senior Conservator, Staffordshire and Stoke Archive Service) and will be on “Seals in History”. The second will be on “The History of Stone Priory” by Dr Philip Morgan (Senior Lecturer in History, University of Keele). There will also be a display of tiles and architectural fragments from the Priory and documents with seals attached.
Tickets are £10 (which includes wine and nibbles) and must be bought in advance, as numbers are limited. They can be obtained from Home and Colour in the High Street or by post from Keith Goodway, 114 Newcastle Road, Stone ST15 8LG, enclosing a cheque made payable to “The Seal Appeal” and a stamped addressed envelope.
