The fifth response we received to our candidate questionnaires came from the Stone Conservative Association on behalf of their candidates. They have forwarded our questionnaire on but have supplied their own statements from their website. We’ve asked a few times for the candidate questions to be returned so that we can present our readers with a common set of responses…..to date we’ve not been able to secure them so we’re publishing what we’ve received. Should we receive responses to the candidate questionnaire we will update.
All candidate responses can be found linked on our candidate page
- Candidate Name: Geoff Collier
- Party: Conservative Party
- Election: Stone Town Council / Stafford Borough Council
- Ward: St. Michael’s / St. Michael’s and Stonefield
I have lived in and around Stone Town all my life. I was educated in Stone and have worked in Stone for 50 years. I have run my own business for 40 years and for 30 years was the proprietor of Stonefield Garage. I love my town and have had the pleasure and privilege of serving the town as both a Town and Borough Councillor. 15 years ago I was privileged to be elected as Stone Town Mayor and together with my wife Cathy we were introduced to all the voluntary organisations and groups in the town. This gave me an opportunity to promote and assist these hard working and dedicated groups of individuals to achieve some of their goals.
In 2016 I had the great honour of becoming Stafford Borough Mayor, which was a position I had always dreamed off. As a member of the Planning committee, I have endeavoured to restrain over development in Stone, although this has sometimes been overruled by National Government Policies.
The combined St Michaels & Stonefield Ward has a wide spectrum of residents, High Street and industry which offer me a great opportunity as a councillor. The extra housing which we are forced to accept add great pressure on infrastructure and traffic flow, which I will endeavour to find solutions. During my last term as a Borough Councillor I fought long and hard for the green recreational area to be retained at Westbridge Park. I hope to carry on my work and achieve much more with your support on May 2nd I hope to carry on my work and achieve much more with your support on May 2nd.
