Local people who use and enjoy Stonefield Park have been invited to join a new ‘Friends’ group to promote the park and have a say about what goes on there.

The ‘Friends of Stonefield Park’ group is being set up by Stafford Borough Council. ‘Friends’ are volunteers who play a vital role in enhancing and protecting the parks and open spaces in the borough.
Facilities in the park include tennis courts, bowling green and play area, as well as an aviary. Its floral decorations have helped Stone in Bloom achieve the ‘Gold’ award in the Heart of England in Bloom competition for the last eight years in a row, and it’s the setting for the annual Burma Star commemorations in the town. Last year, a moving ceremony was held there to mark the centenary of the start of the First World War.
Councillor Mike Smith, cabinet member for leisure at the borough council, said: “Stonefield is a jewel in the town’s crown and is loved by so many people who, year in and year out, enjoy the leisure and play facilities or just take time out to relax there.
“We have a number of friends groups for parks and other green spaces across the borough so this is a great opportunity for those who love Stonefield to come and play a part in its future.”
