Girls needed for Stone Doms teams

Stone Dominoes Girls FC are looking for young footballers between five and 14 to join their teams.

Training takes place once a week – at Wellbeing Park in Swynnerton in the summer and at Newcastle-under-Lyme School in the winter. Match days are on a Saturday.

The club has two female FA-qualified coaches – one of whom is the England under-19 women’s football captain!

Vanessa Atherton said: “Stone Dominoes Girls FC was started in 2010 with just one team, the under-10s. For the 2013/2014 season we will have four – the under-sixes, under-10s, under-12s and under 14s. However, every season we face a battle to try to encourage girls to come and play football.

“We want girls of all abilities to come and play, the emphasis is on the girls having fun, enjoying playing football and learning. Goalkeeping is an important part of football – maybe your child/grandchild is good at netball? They might make a good goalkeeper too!

“We are also looking for local businesses to sponsor our kits. This enables the teams to have a kit to play in. Last season The Badger and Roe contractors kindly sponsored our U12s and U13s teams.”
