Glasses are being raised today at Lymestone Brewery in Stone following the brewery’s triumph in the Business Awards 2014, run by the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA), to which the local brewer belongs.
Lymestone Brewery was presented with a high commendation in the Best Community Support Award for its links with the local High Schools at SIBA’s BeerX event, held in Sheffield.
Ian Bradford said: “We pride ourselves on our links to the local community and in particular our Community Support, so it is wonderful to receive this recognition from our peers and industry experts.
“We learnt quickly that to build a successful brewery, brewing great beers, though of course crucial, wasn’t enough: we had to become good business people as well. We’ve had to learn many of these new skills as we go along, but we’re very proud of the professionalism in everything we do and looking forward to continued success.”
Lymestone Brewery was founded in 2008 by Ian Bradford. Today it employs 6 people and produces approx half a million pints of beer per year to local pubs, shops, restaurants and hotels. Its best selling beer is Ein Stein a 5% German hopped Continental style beer which can be found in bottle and cask around the area, and is always available in the Brewery Tap the Lymestone Vaults in Newcastle town centre.
Presenting the Awards, SIBA chief executive Julian Grocock said,“The SIBA Business Awards have been running for nine years and in that time the number of brewers within our ranks has multiplied to the point where today, we have close to 800 members.
“We are, once again, impressed with the very high standard of entries to the Business Awards, which demonstrates that what our members may lack in size, they more than make up for in their professionalism and commitment to their business. With talented and dedicated individuals like these at the forefront of local brewing, we should be optimistic about the prospects for the sector.”
